A nautical war novel of sorts detailing the events in a man's life whose "supreme ambition is to build the most powerful sea-going engine of war in the world...[but] in pursuit of his patriotic schemes grows unscrupulous and brings about a sweeping civic catastrophe". Published by Doran in conjunction with the Flying Squadron of America, which the introduction describes as an organization representing "every temperance society in America" whose main object is national prohibition of the liquor traffic.
